What’s Up With Farts?
So when you eat, you inhale a large amount of gas along with any food. Additionally, gas is made when you digest food in your intestines. Gases like ammonia, methane, and hydrogen sulfide are all produced when you break down food, and the best way to get it out is flatus.
You’ve probably heard that beans are particularly flatus-inducing, but a 2011 study published in Nutrition Journal has shown that beans, like other high fiber foods, may not cause as much rump mist as people anticipate. And, conveniently, the amount of flatulence associated with bean consumption decreased with continued bean consumption. I had previously been told that beans were a magical fruit, in that the more you ate the more you would toot. It looks like science is finally putting that idea to rest.
Finally, Gawker/i09 has an article about Japanese fart scrolls that shows more of this awesome art, and also introduced me to the term “rump mist.” Please check it out, and a special thanks to the many people who sent me a link to this, knowing how funny I would find it.
